Overview
Kaede Honjou has never played a video game, but when her friend Risa Shiramine convinces her to try the virtual-reality MMO NewWorld Online, she dives in as the shield-wielding adventurer Maple. Afraid of taking damage, Kaede makes an unusual choice: she pours every single stat point into defense. The result is a character who can barely move quickly but is nearly impossible to hurt — and whose strange, overpowered skills soon make her famous across the game’s world.
Alongside Risa’s swift dagger-wielder Sally, Maple explores dungeons, tames monsters, takes on powerful bosses and eventually founds her own guild, Maple Tree. The comedy comes from the gap between Maple’s laid-back, friendly personality and her terrifying reputation: rival players and guilds prepare for a legend, only to meet a cheerful girl with an unbreakable shield. Underneath the jokes, BOFURI is a warm story about friendship, teamwork and finding your own way to play.

Frequently asked questions
What is BOFURI about? It follows Kaede Honjou, a newcomer to the VRMMO NewWorld Online, who plays as Maple and puts all her stat points into defense. She becomes nearly unkillable, and her accidental exploits turn her into one of the game’s most feared players.
Why is Maple so strong? Because she maxed out her vitality (VIT) and defense instead of spreading points across attack and agility. Combined with rare skills she picks up along the way, her build makes her almost impossible to damage.
Is BOFURI based on a light novel? Yes. The anime adapts the light novel series by Yuumikan, which began as a web novel.
Where can I watch BOFURI in India? Both seasons stream on Crunchyroll in India, according to JustWatch India.
