Overview
GANTZ is a dark, brutal sci-fi series that begins with death. When Kei Kurono and Masaru Kato die in a train accident, they wake up in a bare Tokyo apartment facing a mysterious black sphere called Gantz, which drafts the recently dead into violent missions against alien targets. Survival earns points; reaching 100 points earns a choice, including freedom.
There is nothing glamorous about these missions. The fighters are ordinary, frightened people armed with strange suits and weapons, dropped into the middle of the city to hunt creatures the public cannot see. GANTZ stands out for its unflinching violence, moral ambiguity, and the way it asks what ordinary people become when death stops being the end.
