Suzume

Overview

Suzume follows 17-year-old Suzume Iwato, whose chance meeting with a young man named Souta pulls her into a journey across Japan to close doors that are letting disaster through. What begins as a curious encounter becomes a race against time, memory, and grief, as each door she shuts reveals a little more about the world she is trying to protect.

Director Makoto Shinkai pairs sweeping, light-filled landscapes with a quiet, emotional core, making the film as much about healing after loss as about the adventure itself. The result is a fantasy that feels intimate even when its stakes are huge, and it stays with you long after the final door closes.
