The Apothecary Diaries

Overview

Maomao is a sharp-witted young woman raised by an apothecary, with a deep knowledge of medicines, herbs and poisons. After she is kidnapped and sold into service at the imperial palace, she tries to keep a low profile and simply work out her time there. Her curiosity, however, keeps pulling her toward the palace’s unexplained illnesses, accidents and quiet intrigues.

When her medical insight saves lives in the inner court, Maomao comes to the attention of Jinshi, a handsome and influential palace official. As a food taster and then a trusted investigator, she untangles cases that mix poison, medicine, court politics and family secrets, while learning that the palace rewards cleverness only when it is used carefully.
