What If…?

Overview

What If…? takes the Marvel stories many viewers already know and asks a deliberately simple question: what happens when one choice goes the other way? Each episode stands on its own, following a familiar hero, villain or moment down a different road, so a small change can turn a victory into a disaster or give a side character the centre of the story.

The Watcher, voiced by Jeffrey Wright, links the episodes together. He observes the multiverse without interfering, at least at first, and his narration gives the anthology a sense of scale: these are not throwaway jokes, but fully formed alternate worlds with their own stakes. Because the format resets with every episode, new viewers can start almost anywhere, while long-time Marvel fans get the extra pleasure of spotting exactly where a timeline splits.
