Overview
Dragon Ball Z Kai is Toei Animation’s retelling of Dragon Ball Z, rebuilt from the original footage for a faster, tighter viewing experience. First airing in 2009, it redubs, recuts and cleans up the animation of the 1989 series, trimming filler so the story follows Akira Toriyama’s manga more closely, with a new opening and ending to match.
The story covers the same great arc as Dragon Ball Z: adult Goku’s battles against the Saiyans, Frieza, the Androids and Cell, and finally Majin Buu, alongside Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo and the rest of the Z-Fighters. For viewers who want the heart of the Z saga without its slower stretches, Kai is the leanest way to experience it.
