Overview
Rick and Morty pairs a brilliant but reckless scientist with his nervous grandson, and then sends the two of them hurtling through space, alternate dimensions and everyday family life. Rick Sanchez can build almost anything, including a portal gun that opens doors to other worlds, while Morty Smith would usually rather stay home, finish his homework and avoid trouble. Trouble finds him anyway, and that clash between Rick’s wild confidence and Morty’s anxious common sense is what drives the show.
What keeps the series fresh is how freely it mixes its ingredients. One episode is a sprawling sci-fi parody, the next is a small story about school, work or a family dinner, and the jokes land just as hard in both. Beneath the chaos there is a real family at the centre of it all: Beth and Jerry trying to hold their household together, Summer growing sharper and braver with every season, and Rick and Morty learning, slowly and imperfectly, how much they actually need each other.
