Overview
DuckTales (2017) is a fresh, adventure-packed reboot of the beloved 1987 classic, and it quickly proved itself to be far more than a nostalgia trip. The series follows billionaire adventurer Scrooge McDuck, who is reluctantly reunited with his nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie after years apart. Together with their uncle Donald Duck, housekeeper Mrs. Beakley, the fearless Webby Vanderquack and the ever-crash-prone pilot Launchpad McQuack, the family sets off from Duckburg on globe-trotting treasure hunts, daring escapes and mysteries that stretch from ancient temples to the far side of the Moon.
What makes the reboot sing is its heart. Beneath the jokes, booby traps and sky-high stakes sits a warm story about family — about Scrooge learning to be present for his nephews, about the triplets discovering who they are as individuals, and about Della Duck, whose long absence becomes the show’s emotional spine. Creators Francisco Angones and Matt Youngberg packed the series with loving nods to Disney Afternoon history while building a world that stands entirely on its own, with a sharp, modern sense of humor and serialized storytelling that rewards viewers who watch from the start.
