Overview

In the year 2071, the solar system is a patchwork of colonies, casinos, space stations and backwater moons, and the people keeping order are not police officers but bounty hunters. Spike Spiegel, Jet Black, Faye Valentine, the young hacker Edward and the data dog Ein travel aboard the spaceship Bebop, chasing bounties that rarely pay as well as promised. Each job drags them into a different corner of this lived-in future, from Martian bars to abandoned theme parks, and each one peels back a little more of the past they are all running from.

What makes Cowboy Bebop last is how it balances its moods. One episode is a lighthearted caper, the next is a quiet character study, and a few build toward a confrontation with Spike’s old life that the show never rushes. Underneath it all runs a jazz and blues score that gives the series its swagger, and a crew that feels like a family long before any of them would admit it.
