Overview
Maya and the Three is a 2021 animated limited series from creator Jorge R. Gutiérrez that follows Princess Maya of the kingdom of Teca. On the day of her fifteenth birthday celebration, a visit from the gods of the underworld turns her world upside down: an ancient prophecy names her as the one who must stand against Lord Mictlan, the god of war, or watch her people fall.
To face that threat, Maya sets out across a richly imagined Mesoamerican-inspired world to recruit three legendary warriors — the Rooster Wizard, the Skull Archer, and the Puma Barbarian — each with their own past, pride, and reason to fight. Across its nine chapters, the series mixes big action, humor, and heart as Maya grows from a rebellious royal into the leader her people need.
