Overview
Ranma 1/2 (2024) is a fresh animated remake of Rumiko Takahashi’s much-loved martial-arts romantic comedy. Teenage martial artist Ranma Saotome arrives at the Tendo dojo carrying two complications: a childhood training accident at the cursed springs of Jusenkyo, and an arranged engagement to Akane Tendo, the youngest daughter of the dojo’s master. Cold water turns Ranma into a girl, while hot water turns him back again, and that one twist keeps colliding with school life, rivalries and family honour.
What follows is fast, bright and deliberately chaotic. Furinkan High, the Tendo household and a growing cast of rivals, childhood fiancees and cursed fighters all pull Ranma and Akane in different directions, even as the two of them slowly learn to rely on each other. The 2024 version keeps the original’s slapstick energy and romantic misunderstandings, but presents them with modern animation and a pace that makes the old story easy to pick up for the first time.
