Overview
Runaway teenager Hodaka arrives in rain-soaked Tokyo and meets Hina, a girl who can clear the sky with a prayer. As their small weather-clearing business takes off, the pair discover that every sunny day comes at a cost, and that the weather is asking for something in return.
Makoto Shinkai turns Tokyo’s endless rain into a character of its own, pairing detailed city streets with a tender, bittersweet romance. The film asks what we would trade for clear skies, and whether one person’s happiness can outweigh a city’s weather.
