Overview

Violet Evergarden follows a young former soldier who, after the end of a long and brutal war, must find a new place in a world that no longer needs weapons. Scarred in body and unsure of her own feelings, Violet takes a job at the CH Postal Company as an Auto Memory Doll — a professional letter writer who puts other people’s thoughts and emotions into words. Through every letter she writes, she edges closer to understanding the last words spoken to her by Major Gilbert Bougainvillea, the officer who once meant everything to her.

Produced by Kyoto Animation and based on the light novel series, Violet Evergarden is a quiet, beautifully animated drama built around single-episode stories. Each client brings a different kind of longing — a playwright searching for an ending, an astronomer chasing a comet, a mother writing to a child she will not see grow up — and each letter teaches Violet a little more about what it means to feel. It is a show about grief, gratitude and the slow work of learning to say what matters.
