Steins;Gate

Overview

Steins;Gate follows Rintaro Okabe, a self-styled mad scientist in Akihabara who, with his friends in the Future Gadget Laboratory, discovers that a modified microwave can send messages into the past. What starts as a playful experiment quickly turns serious when a shadowy organisation takes an interest in their work, and every attempt to fix the timeline seems to create a worse one.

The series works because it treats time travel as a personal problem, not just a puzzle. Okabe remembers each altered timeline while everyone around him forgets, so the cost of changing the past is written on his face long before the plot explains it. The early, lighter episodes matter too: they build the friendships that make the later choices hurt.

FAQs

How many episodes does Steins;Gate have?

The original series has 24 episodes, telling one complete story from the first D-mail experiments to the final attempt to reach the Steins Gate world line.

Do I need to watch Steins;Gate 0 as well?

No, not first. Steins;Gate 0 is an alternate, midquel-style story that lands best after you have finished the original series and know how its ending is reached.

Is Steins;Gate hard to follow?

The first half is deliberately slow and talky, and the second half reframes much of it. Watching in order, without skipping the early lab scenes, makes the time-travel turns much easier to follow.

Is there a Hindi dub available in India?

No Hindi dub is confirmed on a legal platform in India in this guide. JustWatch India currently shows no Indian streaming option for the series, so no dub claim is made here.
