Overview
The Rising of the Shield Hero begins with Naofumi Iwatani, an ordinary university student who is pulled into the kingdom of Melromarc and named one of its four legendary heroes. Unlike the Sword, Spear and Bow heroes, he is given only a shield, a weapon built for defence rather than attack, and that difference shapes almost everything that follows.
After a false accusation leaves him isolated and distrusted, Naofumi rebuilds his strength step by step, first with Raphtalia and then with Filo at his side. The series follows that slow climb back, from a lone outcast scraping together a living to a leader defending villages against the recurring Waves of Catastrophe.
