Overview
Tokyo Ghoul follows Ken Kaneki, a quiet college student in Tokyo whose ordinary life is shattered after a chance meeting with the mysterious Rize Kamishiro. A terrible accident leaves Kaneki alive only through an organ transplant from Rize, and he wakes up changed: he is now half-human and half-ghoul, a creature that looks human but survives only on human flesh. Caught between two worlds, Kaneki must hide his new hunger from his friends while learning what it means to live as something he once feared.
Taken in by the staff of Anteiku, a small coffee shop that secretly shelters ghouls trying to live peacefully, Kaneki meets Touka Kirishima and others who teach him how ghoul society works and how the human investigators of the CCG hunt them. Across its four seasons, the series follows Kaneki’s long transformation, from a frightened young man clinging to his humanity to a figure caught at the centre of the war between ghouls and the CCG, as old friends, new enemies and shifting loyalties keep redrawing the line between hunter and hunted.
