Overview

Detective Conan begins with Shinichi Kudo, a brilliant high school detective whose sharp reasoning has already made him famous with the police. After stumbling onto a secret deal by a shadowy criminal group known as the Black Organization, Shinichi is poisoned with an experimental drug. Instead of killing him, it shrinks his body back to that of a small child.

Trapped in a child’s body, Shinichi takes the name Conan Edogawa and moves in with his childhood friend Ran Mouri and her father Kogoro, a struggling private detective. From behind the scenes, Conan quietly solves Kogoro’s cases for him while searching for the organization that changed him and for a cure that will restore his real body.

What keeps Detective Conan going after so many years is its simple, satisfying formula. Almost every episode is a self-contained mystery with clues a careful viewer can follow, while the long-running story of the Black Organization slowly moves forward in the background. It is a show you can dip into anywhere, yet one that rewards viewers who stay for the bigger puzzle.
