Erased is a tightly wound time-travel mystery that turns a childhood tragedy into a race against a past that refuses to stay buried. It is short, tense and deeply emotional, and it earns its twists by caring as much about its characters as about its puzzle.
Overview
Satoru Fujinuma is a struggling manga artist with a strange ability he calls Revival: moments before a life-threatening accident, time slips backwards and gives him a chance to stop it. When his mother is murdered, that power sends him much further back than ever before, to his own elementary school days in 1988.
There, as a child again, Satoru realises the murder is connected to a series of disappearances around his classmates, including Kayo Hinazuki. He cannot simply wait for events to unfold. He has to earn the trust of the children around him, change small moments without drawing attention, and work out who is really behind the danger before history repeats itself.
What makes Erased stand out is its balance. The mystery is genuinely gripping, but the heart of the show is quieter: a lonely boy learning to rely on friends, a mother who notices more than she says, and a classroom that slowly becomes a place worth protecting.

FAQs
Is Erased a complete story?
Yes. The 12-episode season tells a self-contained story with a clear beginning, mystery and ending, so you do not need to watch anything else to follow it.
What is Revival in Erased?
Revival is Satoru’s unexplained ability to jump back a short time before a fatal accident, giving him a chance to prevent it. The series uses it as both a mystery device and a way to explore how small choices can change a life.
Is Erased suitable for younger viewers?
It deals with child abduction and murder, so it is aimed at older teens and adults rather than young children, even though much of it is set in an elementary school.
Do I need to know anything before watching Erased?
No. The show explains Satoru’s power and the 1988 setting as it goes, and it works best if you go in knowing as little as possible about the culprit.
