Overview
Akane Nishimura is a quiet fifth-grader who has learned to expect the worst from her classmates. Nicknamed the “Grim Reaper” for her dark hair and gloomy manner, she is teased, avoided, and left on the edge of every classroom group. What looks like coldness is really self-protection: if she keeps to herself, the jokes cannot hurt quite so much.
Everything changes when Taiyo Takada transfers into her class. Takada is cheerful, blunt, and completely unaware of the reputation that follows Nishimura. Instead of joining in the teasing, he talks to her plainly, sits beside her, and treats her kindness as ordinary. Through school days, pool visits, sunflower fields, and summer fireworks, his straightforward friendship slowly gives Nishimura room to smile, speak up, and trust another person again.
