Your Lie in April

Overview

Your Lie in April follows Kousei Arima, a once-celebrated young pianist who stops hearing the sound of his own playing after the death of his mother. His days turn grey and routine until Kaori Miyazono, a free-spirited violinist, bursts into his world and pulls him back toward the stage. What follows is a music drama about grief, friendship, first love and learning to play again — not for perfection, but for the people who listen.

The series is best watched slowly. Its concert scenes do much of the talking, letting piano and violin carry feelings the characters cannot say out loud. That is why it still lands so strongly years after its first run: it treats music as a way of remembering, forgiving and moving forward.
